About SusieDDesigns

I'm a keen crafter who has always enjoyed making things. Amongst other crafts, I really enjoy designing and sewing my own bags and accessories. I always had a notion to write projects for craft magazines but I didn't really know how to go about it. Having researched online, I found that there appeared to be a large market for designers, like myself, to sell their designs as downloadable sewing patterns. This really appealed to me and so began SusieDDesigns! Whenever I made a new bag or accessory, I created PDF downloadable files with all the step photos, instructions and printable pattern pieces. I opened my first shop on Etsy ( a worldwide craft market place). To my surprise, the first few patterns were a hit and so I made more! My patterns still enjoy a popularity on Etsy, especially as I allow homeworkers to SEW & SELL what they create from my designs. What goes around...

Once I knew that customers were liking my pattern instructions, I decided to approach some sewing magazines to see if they'd want to feature some of my sewing projects. I was delighted to have my work accepted by Sewing World and other sewing/craft magazines over the years! My first project was featured on the front cover of Sewing World, along with some more to follow! That was amazing!

becoming a published author!

After a few years of writing for magazines, I felt confident enough to approach some book publishers. I was over the moon to secure a publishing deal with Martingale Publishers (USA) and authored my first bagmaking book, Style & Swing: 12 Structured Handbags for Beginners and Beyond. Seeing your name on the front of a book is a special thing indeed!

The birth of pompompets by susiedesigns

As an avid crafter I love to try out lots of different crafts, inbetween my sewing. Whilst dabbling with pom-pom making, I decided to see if I could make representations of animals, such as cats and dogs. I received a few local orders and I also listed my new wares online, to test the market. As well as my standard designs going down well, my custom-made PomPomPets have become really popular too! I work from a customer's pet photos to create a little Pompompet lookalike! I now also make horses, rabbits, guinea pigs and more, as well as most breeds of cat and dog!
